Wintzell's Oyster House in Montgomery will stay closed as health officials confirm the downtown seafood spot is still struggling with rodent activity.
Persistent Health Violations
The Montgomery County Health Department confirmed on Tuesday that Wintzell's Oyster House will continue its closure. Local officials stated the downtown seafood establishment cannot reopen until it successfully eliminates ongoing rodent activity within the premises. This decision follows a period of failed inspections that have raised concerns regarding food safety and sanitary conditions at the eatery.
The initial shutdown occurred on June 15 after a recent health inspection. During that inspection, the restaurant received a failing score of 65. Beyond the presence of a rodent infestation, health inspectors also identified significant issues with inadequate refrigeration, which posed a risk to food storage and overall public health.
Reopening Requirements
For the restaurant to resume operations, it must meet strict health and safety protocols. This includes not only resolving the pest issues but also ensuring all refrigeration equipment meets local health department standards. The Montgomery County Health Department will require follow-up inspections to verify that the restaurant has taken all necessary steps to remediate the violations found during the June inspection.
Local diners and community members have been monitoring the status of the establishment, which has been a fixture in the downtown area. For now, the seafood house remains non-operational as it works to address the critical health violations cited by county officials.
